*lol* i’m afraid your dad’s profession does not make you an expert.
this is a hedgehog! however, i have never seen one with ears this big and did some research:
“The long-eared hedgehog (Hemiechinus auritus) is a species of hedgehog native to Central Asian countries and the Caucasus Mountains. It is smaller than the West European Hedgehog. It weighs at most 17.64 oz (500 g), and is much faster. It is less likely to cuddle when approached by predators and will most likely try and outrun or leap at predators with their relatively short needles. Due to its lifestyle, it has less needle protection and shorter needles.” (etc.)
You are all amazing! I love the fact that you all are so intersted in a pocupine or a hedgehog! Maybe we should do some research and get pictures of both. This also goes to my lack of knowledge on these critters, I just saw a cute picture and posted it! Shame on me
That is most definitely a hedgehog. Porcupines have round noses, not pointy ones, and they don’t roll up like that.
In fact:
Porcupine quills come out upon contact with another animal, whereas Hedgehog spines are deeply rooted and do not come out.
Porcupines move quite slowly, whereas Hedgehogs dart about.
Porcupines climb trees, whereas Hedgehogs hide under hedges and undergrowth and don’t climb.
Porcupines have long flat tails, whereas Hedgehogs hardly have a tail at all.
Porcupines swing their tails when they feel threatened, whereas a Hedgehog will curl up into a ball.
Porcupines are vegetarians, whereas Hedgehogs eat snails, slugs and insects… and even small amphibians.
